Truly outrageous! The first trailer released for the very anticipated upcoming big-screen adaptation of Jem and the Holograms was just released and has already instantly sparked backlash from fans of the hit 80’s cartoon, of the same name.
The upcoming live-action (not cartoon like the original) flick takes some creative freedom with the interpretation of the beloved ’80s story. Much more than fans expected, reinventing the badass, Jem, as a pop star as a YouTube sensation. Immediatly after the trailer was released viewers pointed out inconsistencies between the cartoon Jem and the Jem played by Aubrey Peeples from the hit TV series, Nashville.
The YouTube up votes and down votes as of yesterday were almost split 50/50, not a good sign for the movie release. Also all the comments left on you tube were extremely critical of the remake. Even though fans were less than thrilled with the trailer, Samantha Newark, the voice of the original Jem, had a positive take. “So excited and thrilled for everyone who poured their heart and soul into the making of the big screen feature film Jem and the Holograms.” The first Jem, is expected to make a cameo in the movie!
So what do you think of the first release?
