The Great White sharks are the one of the most vicious (if not THE MOST VICIOUS) of predators in the ocean; it sits right on top of the ocean with almost no threats in the ocean – unfortunately man’s ability to hunt creatures of the oceans gets in the way. Years of hunting the Great White has severely limited their overall populations so you can only imagine how thrilling it must be for researchers, photographers, and enthusiasts to encounter one.
While of course many have witnessed the Great White, not many can say they have while sitting on top of a Bryde whale’s carcass; a team of researchers in South Africa found themselves witnessing a group of Great White sharks tearing away at the remains. The video description reads,
“In this video, we see the carcass of a Bryde’s whale floating on the water. There is a team of researchers on a nearby boat. One of them gets down from the boat and balances himself on the dead whale carcass. There are huge Great White sharks that come towards the carcass and starts tearing off the meat of the whale. All this while, the researcher is sitting on the dead whale carcass. He takes this opportunity to take some photos of the the sharks up close.”
As amazing (and of course scary) as this scenario is to watch, we are glad that one of the sharks didn’t decide to leap out of the water and go for some human instead.
