Since spring is officially here and summer is RIGHT around the corner, now is the time to really turn up the healthy eating! It may be because you are finally taking that beach vacation or it may be because of a wellness goal– whatever the case may be, you have the right mindset and we are here to help provide you with some motivation! A great way to start your new healthy lifestyle would be by incorporating these delicious but healthy foods to your diet!
Here is a list to help lose weight, feel great and go into the summer looking your best!
Things to add:
- More vegetables and fruits: Any of these!
- Healthy grains: Go for healthy whole grains like barley, rye, and quinoa
- Healthy proteins: Try and get proteins from vegetarian sources – there are an amazing variety of legumes that are loaded with protein. Organic soy (products), quinoa, nuts, eggs, organic dairy, are wonderful options.
- Lean meats: If you eat meat, go for healthier options like white meats from poultry. Pork and beef are fine as long as the fat has been trimmed. The FDA suggests that a 2000 calorie diet includes no more than 5.5 ounces of meat, so consume sparingly.
- Healthy fats: Olive oil and peanut oil are great healthy fats to cook with – it’s recommended that they are unrefined extra virgin. Healthy oils are also found in avocado, nuts, seeds, and fish and should also be added to your diet.
Things to abstain from:
- Anything processed: If the product contains ingredients that you cannot pronounce, then do not buy it.
- Anything with sugar: But, if you must, look at the nutrition fact for how much it contains – roughly 4 grams of sugar is found in a teaspoon; say your drink has 36 grams per serving – do you ever put 9 teaspoons of sugar in ANYTHING you make for one serving?
- Unhealthy fats: Fats from meat, lard, refined vegetable oils, margarine, and all packaged foods made with hydrogenated oils.
- Fast Foods: This includes everything!
