Modern music is, let’s face it, saturated with unintellectual messages. Finding artists that bring thought provoking ideas to the table truly feels like a breath of fresh air. Greg Holden is a New York Based Scottish-English artist whose music is not only very soulful, but encourages the listeners to elevate their social attitudes from a cynical outlook to a humane one.
Just recently, he has released a single entitled Hold on Tight. The message of the song is quite clear, “Don’t take your life for granted.” Being emotionally torn from struggling to support himself as a musician, a broken hearted Holden traveled to India and Nepal where he realized, “how lucky I was, and that we all are, really. The sentiment behind that song is appreciating what you have and living more in the moment.”
To help take the message to the next step, he teamed up with Jon Augustavo (director of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Thrift Shop) to create a music video for the song. The results are simply breathtaking– accompanied by the music, the video gives some of the most heartfelt goosebumps one can imagine and also brings forth an idea to live by– do random acts of kindness for a stranger.
On Random Acts of Kindness Day 2015 or RAK15 (observed on February 17), he released a message on youtube.com asking all his fans to participate in a challenge that is similar to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. You nominate people and they perform acts of kindness – so on so forth. He says, “We wanted to encourage other people to pay it forward and hopefully create a domino effect.”
Although the Random Acts of Kindness Day 2015 (RAK15) is over, we think it is appropriate to follow this ideology everyday. We all wish that the world was a kinder and gentler place to live in. What better way to make it a reality than by performing a simple act of kindness for someone, after all, leading by example is the best way to create a change. We hope you enjoy the music and the video!
